PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A man died after the truck he was driving hit a car and the impact caused the truck to flip, according to investigators.

Louisiana State Police identified the driver who lost his life as Robert Edwards, 43, of Gonzales.

Troopers said the crash happened on US 61 (Airline Highway) at LA 73 (Old Jefferson Highway) in Prairieville around 9 p.m.

Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP said the investigation so far showed Edwards was headed south on Airline in a 2008 Ford F-250 and hit the rear right side of a 2008 Nissan Altima ahead of him.

Lee added the impact caused the car to spin and run off the road, while the truck flipped and Edwards, who investigators said was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the vehicle.

According to Lee, Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office.

Lee said investigators do not know if Edwards was impaired at the time of the crash, but a blood sample was taken for analysis. He added the driver of the car gave a breath test and was not impaired. He also stated the driver was properly buckled up at the time of the crash and was not injured.

No charges were filed.

The crash is still being investigated.
